Gatwick Airport: How many drones have been seen? – BBC News

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said there had been around 40 sightings of what were thought to be a “small number of drones” while the West Sussex airport was closed. He would not give details of what measures had been put in place, but told BBC Breakfast some of them were “military capabilities”. Gatwick’s runway has reopened after drones in the airspace caused it to shut down for more than a day. Police have been trying to identify and stop the drone operator since the airport shutdown began. Despite dozens of sightings, the drone, which detectives think has been adapted to cause deliberate disruption, has not been found. Gatwick runway open after drone chaos – BBC News

Gatwick’s runway has reopened after drones caused the airport to shut down for more than a day. The airport said the runway was “currently available” and a limited number of aircraft were scheduled for departure and arrival. Easyjet said it would resume services but expected departures and landings to be restricted at first. Thousands of passengers remain stranded at the airport as police continue their search for the operator of the drones.
